First membrane unit for separating CO2 from natural gas in China

Dec 13, 2006

After more than two week trial operation, a new membrane separation unit based on the technology developed by researchers from the CAS Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) for the separation of high concentration CO2 in low-grade natural gases has recently passed its acceptance check.

The separation unit, with an annual treating capacity up to 10.36 million m³', was constructed at a gas field in Hainan Province. This is the only installation of such a type in China, and is also the only installation in the world capable of treating such a high content of CO2 in natural gases.

After an on-the-spot appraisal, a panel of experts applauded the feat, saying the process design is rational, the monitoring instruments are working in stability, the equipment is operating safely and reliably, and all processing parameters have attained the design requirements.
